Lenten devotions: April 1, 2014

April 1, 2014                           Psalm 146
Tuesday                                   Isaiah 42:14-21
                                                Colossians 1:9-14

Read from top to bottom these excerpts from today’s three readings as a single thought on God’s caring for us, our failure to listen to him and God’s directions for us.
Psalm 146
I will praise the Lord all my life:  . . . . He is the Maker of heaven and earth, . . . . He upholds the cause of the oppressed, . . .  but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
Isaiah 42:14-21
For a long time God has kept silent, . . . But now, . . .  I will lay waste the mountains and hills, . . . .  You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen.
Colossians 1:9-14
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way, . . . . For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Praise the Lord.  You Are the Maker of all, the hope of the downtrodden, and the bane of the wicked.  You speak to us in many ways, but, while we hear and see, we do not always listen and comprehend.  May the Holy Spirit guide us to live a life worthy of the Lord, that we may enter the kingdom of his Son, through his redemption of our sins.  May we always sing our praise to you, oh God. Amen
