Lenten Devotions: March 14, 2014

March 14, 2014                      Psalm 121

Friday                                      Micah 7:18-20

                                                Romans 3:21-31

We are aware of cruelty and the presence of evil alive in our world; God’s love seems so much at odds with these troubles, which we barely pause to dwell upon, and the hopelessness we feel when we do.

As in ages past and still today, we witness the slaughter of innocents, the repression of corrupt governments, the ravages of poverty and disease; we are overwhelmed. Forgive us for what we have failed to do.

Originated by Love, redeemed by Love and forgiven by Love, in our sin and despair still we raise our hands to you. Separately and collectively, we beg for and are comforted by the words of the psalm:

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” vs 1-2

“The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; he shall preserve thy soul.  The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy going in, from this time forth, and even forevermore” vs7-8

Surround those in deep despair with your presence, God. Whisper the words of comfort only you can give, to sustain them and give them hope.
