Lenten Devotions: March 24, 2014

March 24, 2014                      Psalm 81

Monday                                   Genesis 24:1-27

                                                2 John 1-13

We look for signs and wonders and often disregard the still small voice. Instead of trusting the Almighty to direct our paths, we outline what we think God wants for us. Abraham did not want his son Isaac to return to the old ways from which Abraham had separated himself…ways of many gods, human sacrifice, and excessive physical pleasures. Yet he needs his servant to find Isaac a wife willing to come to the new land and new ways of worshipping. I often feel like the servant, sent out on an impossible task. Find the right path, the right person, the right position, and all this based on a simple trust that God will provide in the way of His own appointing. Being willful usually puts me on a bad track that I will later regret. Trusting in God’s direction seems often treacherous. What if He doesn’t speak? What if I make the wrong decision because I failed to be patient and look for God’s gentle nudge? Again and again I am astonished that God does act in every situation if we keep quiet and look to Him. We should not be like the servant and put conditions on God. “If the girl says hear is water for you and your camels” then she is the right one for Isaac. As Jesus says “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”  This thought has always brought me great comfort.

Thank you, blessed Savior, for being my constant guide and companion though this pilgrimage. Thank you for saying, This is the way; walk ye in it.” Amen
