Lenten Devotions: March 29, 2014

March 29, 2014                      Psalm 23
Saturday                                  1 Samuel 15:32-34
                                                John 1:1-9

A fish, if it perceives its world, knows only water with a rare glimpse of an astounding “otherness”, if it momentarily leaps into air. Once, humans looked up and perceived the sky as the highpoint of their knowledge of the physical world, until we learned to fly.

Our boundaries keep expanding! We did not sail off the edge of the earth so long ago, and today we are challenged to ponder black holes and parallel universes.
There is a biblical verse that says “I have many more things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now” John 16:12.

I suppose one hundred years from now our current knowledge will seem elementary. Isn’t it reassuring to read John who reminds us that “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  Through Him all things came to be, and without him, nothing came to be. Through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”.

Creator God, You have said, “Be still and know that I am God”. Let us not fear the unfolding of knowledge.  This is your creation and all things in it.
